IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas participated in the "Güne Bakış" programme broadcast on Medyascope on 5 August 2021 and shared her views on the wildfires in Turkey's Mediterranean and Aegean regions. Assoc. Prof. Nas indicated that the increasing wildfires in Turkey as well as all over the world were closely related to the climate crisis and emphasized the need for more extensive preparations for such natural disasters. Pointing out that the wildfires spread easier and are more difficult to extinguish particularly in summer months when there is drought, Assoc. Prof. Nas reminded that vigilance should be exercised during these months and shortcomings in firefighting equipment should be eliminated. IKV Secretary General Nas highlighted the need to develop cooperation with the Mediterranean countries located in the same climate zone as Turkey on natural disaster preparedness and joint response. Nas underlined that establishing a joint response task force which would operate in coordination with the EU's Civil Protection Mechanism would be extremely reasonable in this regard.
