IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas participated in the “Dünya ve Biz” programme presented by Aydın Selcen on Artı TV on 24 March 2021. The main topic of discussion was the Turkey agenda and the EU Summit to be held on 25-26 March. IKV Secretary General Nas shared her views on the state of play in Turkey-EU relations, its future and the possible outcome of the EU Summit. Assoc. Prof. Nas stressed the importance of Turkey realising the necessary reforms in order for accession and membership continue to be valid goals within the framework of Turkey-EU relations. Otherwise, she pointed out, the EU would approach Turkey not as a candidate country but as a country in its neighbourhood. Explaining the positive impact of the de-escalation of tensions on relations with the EU, IKV Secretary General Nas underlined that diplomacy was important for this process to continue. Nas stated that the EU plans to coordinate its approach to Turkey with the new US administration and emphasized that in this process, taking steps to solve problems reciprocally would be helpful towards reviving relations.
