IKV participated in TRT World Forum 2019 held in Istanbul on 21-22 October 2019 under the theme “Globalisation in Retreat: Risks and Opportunities”. The third annual international TRT World Forum, brought together opinion leaders from all around the world with the aim to find global solutions to world's contemporary, political, economic, cultural and social challenges.

IKV Vice-Chair Prof. Halûk Kabaalioğlu, spoke at the closed session on the “Future of Turkey-EU Relations”. Former Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator and Turkey’s current Ambassador in Prague Egemen Bağış, Deputy-Foreign Minister and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, First Deputy-Secretary General in the Organisation for Black Sea Economic Cooperation Ambassador Selim Yenel, President of the German-Turkish Chamber of Industry Marcus Slevogt also delievered speeches at the session. The closed session was also attended by IKV Strategy and Business Development Director M. Gökhan Kilit, IKV Press Officer and Istanbul EU Information Centre Coordinator Mehmet Poyrazlı, IKV Senior Researcher Yeliz Şahin, and Junior Researchers Merve Özcan and Melis Bostanoğlu.

TRT World Forum 2019 kicked off with an exclusive talk by Foreign Minister and Chief Negotiator Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on “Demystifying Turkey’s Operation Peace Spring”. Then, the Guest of Honour, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the audience and shared his reflections on the world order and globalisation in retreat. National Defence Minister Hulusi Akar spoke at the panel session entitled “NATO under the Gun: The Emergence of New Security Challenges” while Treasury and Finance Minister spoke at the session on “New Horizons for Emerging Powers: Co-operation or Competition?”. On the second day of the event, former Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and former Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım delivered an exclusive talk on trade wars and the risks to global growth.
