IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas attended the “Democracy Alive” event organised by the European Movement International (EMI), the biggest pro-European organisation that is present in 34 countries. The democracy festival was held on 11-13 April 2019 in Texel, the Netherlands.

Attending the “Sustainability in a Fragmented World” session organised by the Turkey-European Union Association (TURABDER), Assoc. Prof. Nas highlighted the importance of democracy and the preservation of democratic institutions in Turkey’s Europeanisation process, and stated that the increasing far-right tendencies, as well as populist discourses are the biggest threats against democracy.

Democratic values, sustainability and global developments were also the focus of the session moderated by the TURABDER President Prof. Gül Günver Turan. Speeches were delivered on these issues by the TURABDER Vice-President Assoc. Prof. Zeynep Alemdar and TÜSİAD Brussels Office Representative Dilek Aydın.
