IKV brought MEPs’ assistants together with NGO representatives working on migration in Turkey, in cooperation with EP Turkey Forum on 2 November 2018, in its head office in Istanbul.

Following IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas’ opening speech, NGO representatives working on migration exchanged views with Secretary General of EP Turkey Forum Laura Batalla Adam, Member of European People’s Party (EPP) Franc Bogovic’s assistant Gregor Košir, Member of Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) Urmas Paet’s assistant Kati Parn, Member of Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists&Democrats Claudia ?apardel’s assistant Catalina-Elena Prisacaru and Member of Socialists&Democrats Javi López’s assistant Aranzazu Calvera Cosculluela.

Firstly at the meeting, information regarding the International Migration Conference, of which IKV has been its committee member, held in Istanbul on 10-11 May 2018 with the participation 156 people, who were refugees and representatives of refugee hosting communities coming from 29 countries, was given. Afterwards, the NGOs represented at the meeting; IGAM, ERG, Support to Life, International Blue Crescent, INGEV, KEDV, Asil Foundation and OXFAM Turkey, shared their current work and approaches on the migration issue.

At the end of the meeting, EP delegation and NGO representatives made evaluations on various issues ranging from the situation of refugee women to the legal dimension of migration in Turkey, from the education of Syrian population under temporary protection to social adaptation and cooperation between Turkey and the EU in border security.
