IKV İSTANBUL EUIC HELD THE EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK FESTIVAL AND BICYCLE TOUR IN ATAŞEHİR

IKV İstanbul EU Information Centre, in cooperation with Ataşehir Municipality, the Cyclists Association and the EU Delegation to Türkiye, organised the European Mobility Week Festival and Bicycle Tour on 20 September 2026.

The opening speeches of the programme were delivered by IKV Deputy Secretary General M. Gökhan Kilit and Ataşehir Municipality Strategy Director Gaye Yılmaz. In his speech, IKV Deputy Secretary General Kilit provided information about the EU Information Centres Network Project carried out under the umbrella of TOBB and about the IKV, while referring to the themes of the European Mobility Week campaign determined by the European Commission. Stating that they wished to leave a greener, fairer and more mobile city for future generations, Kilit said that they aimed to raise awareness by organising such events.

Following the opening speeches, the European Mobility Week bicycle tour took place in Ataşehir with the participation of many citizens. Attention was drawn to the importance of mobility not only in terms of physical activity, but also for cleaner air and a greener environment.

Following the bicycle tour, a marching band performance and a Zumba class took place at Ataşehir Festival Park. In addition, safe cycling training sessions were provided for children with the aim of promoting safe mobility.

Finally, Murat Suyabatmaz, President of the Cyclists Association, delivered a seminar entitled “The Place of the Bicycle in Our Lives” at the İnan Aydınoğlu Cultural Centre.

The theme of the campaign, organised by the EU every year between 16 and 22 September in Member States and candidate countries, was designated as “Mobility for Everyone”. In 2025, more than 2,700 cities and towns from 46 countries, along with more than 900 businesses, educational institutions, civil society organisations and citizen initiatives, participated in European Mobility Week.
