IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas participated in and moderated the workshop titled “Just Transition: Insights from Various Phases of the Coal Transition” organised by the Istanbul Policy Centre on 23 October 2024. Following the welcoming address by Mercator-IPM Program Coordinator Pelin Oğuz and the opening speeches by 2023/24 Mercator-IPM Researcher Leibniz Doğu and Researcher at the Institute for Southeast European Studies Sinem Ayhan, the panel on international experiences began.

The panel was moderated by IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas and the speakers were Jannis Beutel from the Wuppertal Institute with his talk “Approaches to Just Transition in Coal Regions in the Global South”, Andrea Furnaro from the European University of Flensburg with her speech “International Experiences in Coal Exit: Lessons for Emerging Market Economies” by Andrea Furnaro from the European University of Flensburg and Corinna Zierold from industriAll European Trade Union with her speech “Just Transition in Europe: Trade Union Demands, Anticipatory Practices and the Management of Change”. In the afternoon session of the workshop, experiences on fair transition from Türkiye were discussed in a panel moderated by Istanbul Technical University Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Ahmet Atıl Aşıcı. At the meeting, IPM Director and Sabancı University Vice President, valuable academician Prof. Fuat Keyman, who we lost on 18 October 2024, was commemorated.
