IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas, attended 8th Türkiye-Germany-EU Relations joint conference arranged with cooperation of Cologne University at the Turkish-German University on 10 May 2024. The opening remarks of the conference titled “New Political Challenges for Germany, Türkiye and the EU” were given by Rector Professor Cemal Yıldız and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs, Ambassador Mehmet Kemal Bozay.

Speaking in the first session of the conference, Assoc. Dr. Nas particularly touched upon the areas of progress brought to the agenda by the Borrell-Varhelyi Report, which was published in November 2023 and included recommendations for the future of Türkiye-EU relations. Moreover, she emphasized that the progressions to be made as covered in the report would enhance existing relations and she described the challenges to overcome. While the session titled “Germany’s Role in EU-Turkey Relations: Its Reach and Limits” was moderated by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wessels, other speakers included Prof. Dr. Meltem Müftüler-Baç, Assoc. Prof. Ebru Turhan and Dr. Funda Tekin. The session continued with the question-and-answer section. The other half of the conference addressed matters related to the changing international status quo and the stability of political systems.
