IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas spoke at the webinar titled “Crisis of the International System: The Erosion of Rules, Values and Norms” organized by TÜSİAD Global Politics Forum on 27 April 2022. The webinar’s keynote speech was given by Global Politics Forum Academic Coordinator Prof. Evren Balta, and the webinar was moderated by Koç University Law Faculty Dean and UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality and Sustainable Development Prof. Dr. Bertil Emrah Oder. The speakers of the webinar were, in order of speech, former UN special rapporteur on violence against women Prof. Dr. Yakın Ertürk, former Ambassador and former ECHR Judge Rıza Türmen, IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas and Journalist-Author Barçın Yinanç.

In the webinar, the current state of the international system, especially the violation of the basic norms and rules of the international order, which was deteriorated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the opposition of rising powers like Russia and China to Western hegemony were discussed.

In her speech, Assoc. Prof. Nas touched upon the current state of the international system and its crisis. Defining the crisis of the international system as a crisis of trust, legitimacy, and authority, Assoc. Prof. Nas stated that fundamental rights and freedoms and democracy maintain their importance and universal character and emphasized the importance of the struggle for progressive politics at the local, national, and global levels.
