IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas spoke in the “War-Climate-Life: Turkey Should Phase Out Coal” episode of the “Pandemic and Society” webinar series organised by Istanbul Policy Center (IPC) on 8 March 2022. In the webinar, which focused on the joint statement issued by IKV, IPC and TEPAV calling on Turkey to phase out coal by 2035, the recent developments in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine were also discussed. Assoc. Prof. Nas highlighted the importance of setting clear targets and designing a roadmap for Turkey to achieve its 2053 climate goals. Nas also stated that Turkey, as an EU candidate country and a Customs Union partner, was primarily affected by the European Green Deal. The other participants of the webinar, which was moderated by Prof. Senem Aydın-Düzgit, were Prof. Güven Sak and Bengisu Vural.
