IKV Vice Chair Prof. Halûk Kabaalioğlu chaired the conference titled "Our EU Process and Opportunities for Youth" organised by Marmara University Institute of European Studies on 7 December 2021. In his speech at the beginning of the session, Prof. Kabaalioğlu referred to the evolution of Turkey's relations with the EU and noted that the EU process played a crucial role in Turkey's attaining contemporary standards. While introducing Deputy Foreign Minister and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, who was a speaker at the conference, Prof. Kabaalioğlu recalled the importance of having a diplomat with a sound knowledge of the EU like Ambassador Kaymakcı as Deputy Foreign Minister on Turkey-EU relations. In the conference, which was attended by over 100 participants and featured an interactive presentation by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Kaymakcı, an important point regarding Turkey-EU relations was made. The participants were asked whether they support Turkey’s EU membership at the beginning of the conference and again at the end of the conference. While the support recorded was low at the beginning of the conference, almost all participants voiced support for Turkey’s EU bid following Ambassador Kaymakcı’s presentation.
