IKV SECRETARY GENERAL NAS SPOKE AT THE MIGRATION WORKSHOP IN ISTANBUL AYDIN UNIVERSITY

IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas took part in the meeting organised within the framework of the İstanbul Aydın University Social Sciences workshop titled “Göç Kavramına Çok Boyutlu Yaklaşım- Multidimensional Approach to the Concept of Migration” on 29 September 2021. Assoc. Prof. Nas delivered a speech on “Migration in Turkey-EU Relations“ in the session on security.

In her speech, Assoc. Prof. Nas said that migration quickly climbed up to be the top of the agenda in Turkey-EU relations and became the defining issue.Assoc. Prof. Nas continued by saying that parallel to the signing of the 2013 Turkey-EU Readmission Agreement visa liberalisation process kicked off; the Syrian refugee crisis carried the migration issue to the top of the agenda and that with the EU-Turkey Statement of 18 March 2016 helped finalise the cooperation on migration and immigrants between Turkey and EU. Nas made a point of the fact that Turkey is carrying out a very important humanitarian task by hosting nearly 4 million migrants and refugees and went  to say that Turkey-EU relations can not be limited to the issue of migration only due to the multidimensional nature of the relations. Other participants in the session moderated by İstanbul Aydın University Faculty member DrÖzgür Tor were Mimar Sinan Fine Arts Faculty member Prof. Osman Yorulmaz, Federation of Balkan Turk Migrants and Refugee Associations President Assoc. Prof. Kader Özlem, Yıldız Technical University faculty member Assoc. Prof. Fuat Aksu and İstanbul Aydın University faculty member Prof. Sedat Aybar.
