IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas participated in various media programmes to evaluate the conclusions of the European Council Meeting held on 24-25 June 2021. Commenting on the Turkey section of the European Council conclusions, Assoc. Prof. Nas indicated that these conclusions were essential within the scope of the positive agenda brought to the table by the EU at the October 2020 European Council.

Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas stated that although the authorisation process for the official start of the negotiations on the modernisation of the Turkey-EU Customs Union, which is one of the most critical elements of the positive agenda, continues, it is not envisaged to start immediately. IKV Secretary General also underlined that technical talks would be carried out to solve the existing problems in the Customs Union. Assoc. Prof. Nas explained that one of the most important conclusions of the Meeting was the decision to continue the support for Syrian refugees with a new package of 3 billion euros. Furthermore, IKV Secretary General emphasized that speeding up the preparations for the launch of high-level dialogue meetings on issues such as climate, public health, and counterterrorism is vital for the development of an environment of dialogue and trust.
