IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas participated in a webinar on “The future of Turkey-EU relations: Can the EU and Turkey find a way forward?” organised by Circle Foundation on 8 April 2021. IKV Secretary General Nas made the point that both Turkey and the EU would benefit from improving the relations. Nas said that it should not be forgotten that Turkey is a candidate country and emphasised that any idea to replace this with a different kind of relationship would be taking one step back. Other speakers who took part in the webinar moderated by TRT World presenter Ayça Aydoğdu were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı, Director for External Relations at European Commission’s Secretariat General Michael Karnitschnig, Sweden’s former Ambassador to Turkey, former State Secretary in the Defence Ministry of Sweden and member of the European Security Program at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) Ambassador Michael Sahlin and scholar at the Middle East Institute (MEI) and visiting professor at the College of Europe Prof. Emiliano Alessandri.
