IKV SECRETARY GENERAL NAS SPOKE AT THE WEBINAR ON TURKEY-UK FREE TRADE AGREEMENT
IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas took part in the webinar on Turkey-UK Free Trade Agreement organised by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) on 11 March 2021. TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu and the British Ambassador to Turkey Sir Dominick Chilcott gave the opening speeches which were followed by a panel where bureaucrats from the Ministry of Trade and the British Embassy shared detailed information about the agreement. In her speech, IKV Secretary General Nas mentioned the basic principles of the Turkey-UK Free Trade Agreement and noted that the main purpose of the agreement is to guarantee the continuation of the trade relations between Turkey and the UK without encountering any challenges even after Brexit when UK leaves the Customs Union. Nas also mentioned that Turkey and the UK are expected to begin negotiations in two years’ time for a more in-depth and comprehensive trade agreement which would not only cover industrial goods and trade but also include agriculture, services, public procurement and investment.
