IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas participated as a speaker in the webinar "Turkey and Europe: Issues and Challenges" held on 10 February 2021. During the webinar, in which the Director of the French Institute of Anatolian Studies (IFEA) Bayram Balcı delivered the opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Nas and Prof. Sinem Akgül Açıkmeşe from Kadir Has University assessed the latest developments in the Turkey-EU relations.
IKV Secretary General argued that Turkey’s relations with the EU have developed around divergence and deviation rather than cohesion and integration. Drawing attention to the negative developments marking the recent years, Assoc. Prof. Nas stated that an opportunity arose to mend bilateral relations between the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021. Emphasising the significance of the European Green Deal and the Digital Europe priorities for Turkey, IKV Secretary General indicated that a positive political agenda will increase cooperation opportunities concerning these two priorities.
