IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas participated in the “Dünya ve Biz” programme presented by Aydın Selcen on Artı TV on 27 January 2021. The discussion revolved around the questions of whether a new page in Turkey-EU relations is possible, what the EU expects from Turkey for a fresh start in the relations and how Biden’s inauguration as US President will effect Turkey-EU relations. Increasing diplomatic contacts between Turkey and the EU, statements about Turkey’s future within the EU, future of Turkey-EU relations, concrete steps that could be taken for creating a positive agenda and possible developments ahead of the 25-26 March European Council meeting were the main issues discussed. Stating that 2021 could bring positive developments in terms of Turkey-EU relations, IKV Secretary General Nas stressed that this would depend on decisive engagement and communication on the part of both the EU and Turkey. Finally, Assoc. Prof. Nas highlighted that with the need to address the negative effects of the pandemic and the new conditions created after Biden administration’s taking office, reviving Turkey-EU relations has become more important than ever.
