CLOSING MEETING OF THE EU MONITORING NETWORK WAS HELD ONLINE

The closing meeting of the project entitled EU Monitoring Network jointly carried out by IKV, Turkey Europe Foundation (TAV), and YADA Foundation was held on 18 December 2020. The project has been conducting under the Grant Programme for Partnerships & Networks for Strengthening of the Cooperation between Public Sector and CSOs since October 2018 with joint activities of the three partners.

During the meeting that consisted of three parts, IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas delivered an opening speech emphasizing the importance of the project and IKV's dedication to bettering Turkey-EU relations. In the aftermath of the speeches delivered by TAV Chairman, Tevfik Altınok and YADA Vice Chairwoman, Ceylan Özünel Sül, Director General for Financial Cooperation and Project Implementation at the Directorate for EU Affairs, Bülent Özcan took the floor underlining the crucial role of civil society plays for Turkey's alignment with the EU acquis and expressed his views on the outcomes of EU Monitoring Network.

Following the presentation delivered by the YADA Foundation on their civil society research conducted via interviews with 1000 CSO representatives, an interactive play session took place among the participants. At the last part of the meeting, a panel was held to discuss changes concerning the third term of IPA funds and its implications on civil society in Turkey. During the panel, Richard Youngs, Senior Fellow at Carnegie Europe, Biljana Spasovska, Executive Director at Balkan Civil Society Development Network, and Mustafa Murat Özçelebi, EU Expert at the Directorate for EU Affairs, shared their ideas and commented on changing priorities and funding allocations of the new IPA term from both the EU's and candidate countries' perspective.
