IKV and IKV Istanbul EU Information Center organised a webinar entitled “European Vision and Multilingualism” in collaboration with Conference Interpreters Association of Turkey on 1 October 2020, on the occasion of European Day of Languages and International Translation Day. The webinar was moderated by IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Çiğdem Nas. The panellists of the webinar included Chairman of Conference Interpreters Association of Turkey Bahar Çotur, Head of the Translation and Interpreting Department at Boğaziçi University Ebru Diriker, Coordinator of Masters in Conference Interpreting Program at Bilkent University Ebru Kanık. IKV Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Nas delivered an opening speech at the webinar.

During the webinar, multilingualism, Europe’s rich linguistic and cultural diversity as a means of European unity, the importance of learning foreign language for developing plurilingualism and intercultural understanding, the importance to preserve and enhance Europe’s linguistic diversity and boost foreign language learning were discussed. Moreover, panellists also talked about the key role of interpreters in communication between people and cultures, the role and ability of interpreters at conferences, education and training of translators and conference interpreters, training standards and practices in Turkey and EU.
