Information Note:

For the first time in the modern era, a pandemic struck everyone, without discriminating between countries, regardless of the lifestyle, and without discriminating between rich or poor, developed or least developed economies. In the recent history of the world, countries have not been economically and socially paralysed to the current extent in any global crisis experienced until now.

The aftermath of the pandemic does not look so bright, either. After this crisis, it will best take years for economies, governments, institutions, international cooperation and public’s sense of trust to be restored.

The globalisation that we know some are benefiting, some are complaining, will evolve in another direction, and will move to another level where we cannot currently anticipate.

Global problems that we are familiar with such as climate change, terrorism, migration will continue, but we will face enormous new challenges such as increased interstate conflicts, turbulence in alliances, societal destabilisation triggered by poverty and inequalities, rising protectionism and radical trends gaining ground.

On the other hand, the virtue and effectiveness of values, especially democracy, are being questioned, and belief in mechanisms, institutions and principles that are ineffective in solving existing problems is decreasing.

We have all become so focused on the pandemic and the human health dimension that very significant issues, which we did not talk anything other than a few months ago, cannot find any place in the public agenda.

One of them is our relations with the EU and the future of EU which-  despite all its shortcomings -  is a sphere of economic prosperity, political stability and peace in our west.

The second one is the economic and political instability in our east and the developments that took place in the field of war, which we feel directly or indirectly, especially in terms of security, with all its weight: Relations with Syria, Iran, Russia and the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Since we have focused our attention on the coronavirus pandemic, none of these problems have ceased to exist. The problems continue to grow. On the day the pandemic is over, all of them will become heavier, knocking on our door.

If you are interested in the latest state of play on these issues and what is awaiting us in the near future, join us in our webinar and hear from our EU and NATO mission chiefs who are the best experts keeping the pulse of the world from EU’s capital.
