With the West in a moment of crisis and internal tumult, Russia has become an increasingly consequential actor worldwide, making its presence felt not only in neighboring Georgia and Ukraine but also in Libya, Syria, Venezuela, and even Western democracies. At this private roundtable, two distinguished international experts will analyze Russia’s new role in global politics and discuss several crucial questions. What unique advantages does Russia have—and what limitations does it face—in its effort to project power globally? To what extent has Russia’s foreign policy succeeded in advancing the country’s influence in places from Syria to sub-Saharan Africa, and to what extent has it failed? Finally, what do recent domestic developments in Russia, such as President Vladimir Putin’s proposed constitutional reforms, mean for the trajectory of Russian foreign policy?

This event will be in English. Simultaneous translation will not be provided.
