IKV PARTICIPATED IN PROCESS SAFETY SYMPOSIUM
IKV participated in the 2nd Process Safety Symposium, which was organised by Kocaeli Chamber of Industry and Kontrol Media, on 9-10 April 2019. During the symposium also supported by IKV, along with people from leading companies, prominent people from Ministry of Environment And Urbanisation, Ministry of Science, Industry, and Technology and Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services delivered speeches.
During the two-day symposium, speakers narrated the events which led to the Seveso Directive entering into force and scrutinised the reasons behind the revision of Seveso II into Seveso III. It was stated that Turkey harmonised its legislation to Seveso II and put into force the Prevention and Mitigation of Major Industrial Accidents Directive (BEKRA) on 30 December 2013. Turkey’s efforts to harmonise its legislation to the subsequent directive entitled Seveso III was also emphasised upon. It was pointed out that this directive has been developed in parallel with environment and occupational health safety issues addressed in Turkey’s EU accession negotiations. Since major accidents pose socioeconomic problems to countries and Turkey has the highest rate of occupational accidents in Europe, the cruciality of the harmonisation with the EU’s directive was highlighted during the symposium. In addition to these, the transition of process safety in light of Industry 4.0 and the actions that need to be taken in the framework of BEKRA by the chemical sector were shared with the audience.
