İKV Istanbul EU Information Centre, in cooperation with the EU Delegation to Turkey and the German Embassy in Turkey, brought students closer to science and innovation. ‘’EU Science Caravan in My City’’ project met with secondary school students in Istanbul between 4 and 8 February 2019.

“EU Science Caravan’’ met with secondary school students in Istanbul after visiting Ankara and Edirne, with the purpose of contributing scientific activities in education as of January 2019. ‘’Science in My City’’ aims to make children gain ‘’do-it-yourself’’ culture through ‘’dream, design and produce’’ approach that overlaps with innovation policies.

EU Science Caravan hosted students of Gaziosmanpaşa Şehit Öğretmen Mustafa Gümüş Middle School on February 4, Kâğıthane Yaşar Doğu Middle School on February 5, Başakşehir Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar Middle School on February 6, Tuzla TOKİ Oruç Reis Middle School on February 7, Beykoz 75’inci Yılı Cumhuriyet Middle School on February 8, 2019.

During the week of 4-8 February 2019, the IKV Istanbul EU Information Centre visited 5 different schools for 5 days, conducted workshops on wooden modelling, robotic-coding, 3D modelling and 3D printing. It also enabled the schools and students whom cannot benefit from similar opportunities.

The event is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Convention of the Rights of the Child with a focus on advancing children’s rights in the age of Artificial Intelligence as children and young people across the globe will be the most impacted by the growth of AI technologies and applications.

The caravan, which is designed specifically for a generation that imagines, designs and produces a caravan, it is able to carry out workshops with 15 participants at the same time. Science Workshop Workshops include Wood Design Workshop, Robotics-Coding Workshop, 3D Modeling & 3D Printer Workshop. The EU Science Caravan will tour 20 cities between January and June 2019 and will visit second grade schools particularly targeting disadvantaged groups in remote districts.
