IKV Brussels Representative Haluk Nuray and Senior Researcher Yeliz Şahin, held meetings with a number of MEPs concerning the 2018 Report on Turkey the first draft of which was revealed in the second half of November 2018. During the meetings with MEPs Nedzhmi Ali (ALDE, BG), Ilhan Kyuchyuk (ALDE, BG), Miltos Kyrkos (S&D, GR) and European Parliament’s Rapporteur for Turkey Kati Piri (S&D,NL), the draft report and Turkey-EU relations were thoroughly discussed. During the meetings, the IKV side conveyed their concerns regarding paragraph 13 of the draft report suggesting the formal suspension of Turkey’s EU accession talks. IKV is determined to continue the exchanges with MEPs and will aim to bring MEPs around the same table with Turkish civil society representatives, business people and academics in a sincere atmosphere prior to the debate on the draft Turkey Report which is scheduled for the plenary session in March 2019.
