Cooperation between Turkey and the EU regarding the refugee issue is ongoing and one can say that it constitutes an important component within the framework of the agenda of Turkey-EU relations in a period where relations have been faced with tumult. As a result of the increasing intensity in the Syrian crisis, there have been more and more migration flows departing Syria for Turkey which has become a real challenge for both Turkey and the EU in terms of providing humanitarian aid, emergency assistance, protection and resettlement within the country. Furthermore, it can be said that as a result of the multifaceted structure of the refugee issue along with its human aspect, it is of critical importance to handle this issue with care and sensitivity and by avoiding any kind of disinformation in that respect.

The publication written in Turkish and which has been edited by Prof. Yaprak Gülcan, Prof. Sedef Akgüner and Prof. Yeşim Kuştepeli and published on behalf of IKV entitled “A New Topic in Turkey-EU Relations: The Refugee Issue and Turkey-EU Cooperation” (Publication No: 293), brings together numerous and prominent Turkish experts regarding the refugee issue and thus brings a large and comprehensive perspective with a variety of dimensions.

Along with bringing a deep and rich corpus regarding the refugee issue, the publication aims at becoming a reference with respect to the latest developments in Turkey-EU relations and critical issues within the framework of the global system.

The publican comprises three parts. In the first part, the institutional, political dimension and refugee issue of Turkey-EU relations is analysed thoroughly by taking into consideration the latest developments in Turkey-EU relations, the legal and human rights dimensions of the refugee issue, the EU’s latest legislation, the implications upon the Syrian civil war, increasing far right and the normative power of the EU.  In the second part, the economic and societal dimensions of the issue are discussed through a strong authentic academic background. In the last part, photo artist Sinan Kılıç presents a striking visual gallery with his work entitled “On the Road with Pictures” focusing on the presence of Syrian refugees in Turkey.
