TURKEY-EU HIGH LEVEL POLITICAL DIALOGUE MEETING WAS HELD IN BRUSSELS
Turkey-EU High Level Political Dialogue Meeting which was realised at the level of the directors was held on 13 June in Brussels. Representatives from the Ministry for EU Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Commission and the European External Action Service participated in the meeting.
The meeting can be evaluated as a significant progress in terms of re-starting the dialogue process between Turkey and EU following a long break. On 25 May, at the occasion of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Brussels for the NATO Summit, he met with President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and President of the European Council Donald Tusk. In this meeting, a road map was brought on the agenda which would shape relations between the parties in the upcoming period of 12 months. In the next process, this political dialogue meeting is crucial with regards to changing the relations positively between the parties. This meeting is being expected to be followed by the meeting to be held at the ministerial level.
As mentioned by the Ministry for EU Affairs, Turkey's accession process to the EU, irregular migration, the modernisation of the Customs Union, the visa liberalisation dialogue, counter-terrorism and other fields of cooperation were discussed during the meeting as well as an exchange of opinions with respect to other international issues.
