NEW PUBLICATION FROM IKV: TURKEY-EU REFUGEE DICTIONARY (IN TURKISH)

In today’s world, one of the most pressing issues is undoubtedly the refugee crisis. Inequalities between countries, illnesses, wars and conflicts and other factors have led to significant flows of population from poorer countries in the South to the more prosperous North with better living conditions. One important example of this has been the conflicts and turmoil which has marred the Mediterranean region and led to such flows in the last years.

As a result of the Arab spring and more specifically of the ongoing Syrian civil war, these flows instead of tarnishing have been further enhanced. Turkey, at the crossroads between the EU and Syria has been for many refugees their first port of entry and as such has been known as the country which hosts the largest number of refugees in the world. Turkey thus plays a vital role in regulating migration and refugee flows and cooperates actively with the EU in that respect. In that contest, the parties came to an agreement on 18 March 2016 which highlighted the critical importance of increasing cooperation and joint actions in order to effectively manage and regulate the flow of migrants as well as help the integration of populations already present in Turkey. As IKV, we have been following closely Turkey-EU cooperation with respect to the refugee crisis as well as the Visa Liberalisation Dialogue. Furthermore, we have been organising meetings and colloquia with the expressed objective of increasing the understanding of notions regarding the refugee crisis and beyond.

As such, IKV Junior Researcher Deniz Servantie prepared a publication entitled “Turkey-EU Refugee Dictionary” (No: 290) where he analysed the main concepts of the refugee jargon, the latest developments in the refugee crisis and  its Turkey and Turkey-EU relations dimensions along with a more broad perspective.
