INFORMATION REGARDING THE JEAN MONNET SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

The Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme, which is being pursued since 25 years, takes its place among the most rooted and distinguished scholarship programmes in Turkey. The programme, by meeting the personnel needs regarding EU affairs, aims at contributing to the reinforcement of the administrative capacity of the public and private sectors as well as that of civil society organisations. Furthermore, along with this objective, the programme helps in establishing bridges between EU and Turkish civil society organisations.

Financed by the EU, the Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme holds a special programme quality for Turkey and is managed by the Ministry of EU Affairs since 2007. The scholarship holders can participate in a university or university-like institution in the EU where they can get a Master’s degree or participate in a research programme for duration of at least 3 months and a maximum of 12 months.

Since its inception in 1990, the number of scholarship holders who have benefited from the Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme has rose to almost 2,000 and with very different profiles, from public workers to private sector representatives, from university students to academicians, from civil society organisations representatives to local authority workers.

The 2015-2016 academic year was the period with the largest number of scholarship holders since the beginning of the Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme 25 years ago. Scholarships have been attributed to 226 people within the framework of the 2015-2016 academic year.
