    The EU Ministers of Foreign Affairs meeting in the General Affairs Council on the 13th of December did not adopt a decision to suspend accession negotiations, a step which had been proposed by the Austrian government.

    We condemn in the strongest possible terms the heinous terrorist attack which took place on 10 December in Istanbul; we offer our condolences to the families of the victims and wish for speedy recovery to the injured.

    Former French Prime Minister Michel Rocard passed away at the age of 85 on 2 July 2016. A leading figure of the French Socialist Party, Michel Rocard was at the head of the French Government during the period covering 1988 and 1991.

    Britain held a referendum regarding its status as an EU Member State on 23 June 2016. The referendum saw the victory of the “Leave” campaign. In the referendum, the turnout reached 72.2% of the electorate with approximately 30 million people casting their vote.
