ELFA GENERAL COUNCIL WILL BE HELD UNDER THE CHAIRMANSHIP OF IKV VICE-PRESIDENT PROF. HALÛK KABAALIOĞLU

IKV Board of Directors Vice President Prof. Halûk Kabaalioğlu who was elected the President of ELFA (European Law Faculties Association) in 2014 will chair the 20th ELFA General Council. The General Council meeting and conference will be held on the 16-19 April at the Yeditepe University. ELFA, which includes more than 200 law faculties, is pursuing its activities since 1995. ELFA’s purpose and goals are as follows:

  • Contribute to the legal education in Europe;
  • Develop and coordinate reforms undertaken in legal education;
  • Develop cooperation and dialogue among universities;
  • Increase the quality of legal education and create new working areas;
  • Represent EU law faculties at EU and other European institutions.

ELFA’s main objective is to increase its global image and thus establish closer cooperation with law faculties outside of Europe.

The key speakers will also participate in the ELFA meeting which will be held in the 16-19 April are as follows:

  • Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Volkan Bozkır;
  • President of the European Court of Justice and Rector of the University of Luxembourg Hon. Marc Jaeger;
  • Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Beijing Prof. Philip McConnaughay;
  • Former President of the Association of American Law Schools Prof. Leo Martinez;
  • Prof. Ilsur Salikhov from Kazan University;
  • Dean of the University of Western Australia Prof. Erika Techera;
  • First Vice Chairman of ELFA, Prof. Laurence Gormley;
  • US Delegate to UNCITRAL and UNIDROIT Prof. Henry Gabriel.

In total, 30 lecturers from various universities from Kazan to Beijing will present their papers at the seminar. International legal education, EU judicial system and the TTIP negotiations are the main topics that will be discussed during the seminar.
