VOLKAN BOZKIR HAS BEEN APPOINTED AS THE NEW MINISTER FOR EU AFFAIRS OF THE 62nd GOVERNMENT

Volkan Bozkır has been appointed as the new Minister for EU Affairs of the 62nd Government formed by the new Prime Minister Dr. Ahmet Davutoğlu. Former Ambassador and the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Volkan Bozkır previously held office at the EU Permanent Representative and at the Secretary General of the European Union. Bozkır will also serve as the Chief Negotiator within the Ministry of EU Affairs.

Volkan Bozkır graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Ankara University. Afterwards, when working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was the Vice-consul of the General Consulate in Stuttgart, First Secretary of the Embassy in Baghdad, Undersecretary of the Permanent Representation to the OECD, Consul General in New York, Ambassador in Bucharest; Permanent Representative of Turkey to the EU.

In addition to these assignments, he also acted as the Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister, Chief of Cabinet and Chief Foreign Policy Advisor to Presidents, Deputy Secretary General for EU Affairs, Deputy Undersecretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responsible for EU Affairs, Secretary General for EU Affairs. Furthermore, he was also elected as the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and Chairman of the Turkey- US Interparliamentary Friendship Group.

He has been rewarded the Order of the Star of Romania and Order of the Merit of the Italian Republic at the “Knight” rank.
