“TALKING ABOUT OUR COMMON FUTURE” PROJECT
“Talking about Our Common Future” project was launched by IKV on 2011 with the aim of shedding light on the future of Turkey-EU relations within the context of a changing world. As part of the project, a series of round table meetings were organized to discuss Turkey-EU relations and EU policies.
In this regard, the first roundtable meeting entitled “Turkish and European Perspectives on the Changing Middle East and North Africa” was organized on the 10th December 2011. IKV Chairman Prof. Dr. Halûk Kabaalioğlu, President of Foreign Affairs Council of Turkish Grand National Assembly Ambassador Volkan Bozkır, and Co-Chairman of EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee and Member of the Observer Committee for elections in Tunisia Hélène Flautre delivered speeches at the meeting. At the second meeting organised on the 24th February 2012, the theme “Restructuring the Economic and Monetary Union” was thoroughly analysed by the experts of the European Commission as well as from Turkey and academicians. IKV Chairman Prof. Dr. Halûk Kabaalioğlu, Dirk Verbeken from the Directorate General of the Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission, Prof. Dr. Fabian Amtenbrink from Erasmus University Rotterdam, Prof. Dr. Nicholas Baltas from University of Athens, Bruegel Research Fellow Zsolt Darvas, Dr. Murat Üçer from Koç University, and Prof. Dr. Piet Jan Slot from Leiden University gave speeches at the conference. These meetings enable to reveal the common and diverging points within the assessments of the main important topics regarding Turkey and EU agenda and to show that the main problems can be overcome by the enhancement of the cooperation between Turkey and the EU.
